Envelopes

Most paper recycling collections won't take envelopes, so what do you do with them?
We've had a couple of ideas...
  1. Reuse them! Put a sticky label over the window or old address, and seal the envelope up with a bit of sticky tape. Don't use staples to seal the envelope, as these can get caught on things in the postal system. (Or if you do use staples, put some tape over them.) If you need labels, try Friends of the Earth and do a search for "labels".
  2. Compost them! If you can't reuse envelopes, you can always compost them. Ideally you need to take the plastic windows out first, but if you're lazy then you can cheat and leave them in, and then just riddle the final compost to remove the perfectly intact windows.
